The National AIDS Commission (NAC) has concluded a three-county tour aimed at strengthening collaboration and coordination with local counties’ authorities to enhance HIV response programs. The three counties include Nimba, Bong and Margibi.
Headed by two Commissioners, Dr. Mohammed Swaray, Commissioner for Program and Policy and J. Alexander Zogbaye Sr, Commissioner for Decentralization the tour allowed the Commissioners to hold separate meetings with Superintendent and County Health Team offices.

Discussions in the different counties focused on how the Commission and these two critical local authorities can collaborate to improve and strengthen coordinating structures especially the County Steering Committee (CSC) to aid effective HIV programs.

The Commissioners also used the tour to acquaint themselves with issues in the national HIV response at the county levels, and how the Commission can work with local authorities in the counties to hold implementing partners responsible to account for improved service provision.

Highlighted in the discussions was the urgent need for the reactivation of the Steering Committees in the different Counties.

The County Steering Committee is an oversight body established in 2019 Chaired by the Superintendent and Co-Chaired by the County Health Officer in each county to prioritize high impact interventions relating to HIV prevention, treatment care and support in the various counties.

The tour took place from July 1-4, 2025
